The course is buried under 18″-20″ of snow and is criss-crossed by dozens of downed trees, so the race director made the tough decision to cancel. On the bright side, I’m guaranteed entry into next year’s event. I’ve really enjoyed my training, so while I’m disappointed to not be attempting my first ultra next week, I’m not too upset. I’ll use this good base to carry me through my March marathon.
I take it rescheduling is not an option? That is really too bad, but at least you have another race pretty close on the horizon.
I’m not sure why rescheduling isn’t an option. Probably something to do with the park permit process/cost. The entry fee was a phenomenally low $19.65 (the RD lowers the price by a dime or so annually for kicks), so there may not be enough money to pivot on a dime, no pun intended, should the scheduled race day be a washout. It’s a bummer.
